5 Gaming Remasters that I'd Actually be OK with

Let's face it, there are a lot of gaming remasters and next-gen ports floating around right now. Such as Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Resident Evil, Diablo III, GTA V, Metro, Saints Row IV among many, many others. A few of them I am OK with, and a few of them I see little - to no - point in. Regardless of how I feel about those that are already out, or about to be out, here are a few that I would like to eventually see. Honestly though, I can only see one or two of these being an actual possibility, but I can dream.

To help keep this post realistic, I am only going to take into consideration recent games. Of course I would love to see a remaster/remake of games like Rock N Roll Racing, or something like that. But maybe that list is better saved for another post?

#1. Mass Effect Trilogy Who wouldn't love going back and playing through the story of Shepard once again in full 60+FPS, 4k UHD glory? Remaster the first game, to make it play more like Mass Effect 2 and 3 (this is just popular opinion. I'd honestly be okay if they didn't do that), and beef up the graphics (although some parts of Mass Effect 1 still look gorgeous, IMO. Such as the Citadel). Then slightly touch up Mass Effect 2 & 3, throw in all the DLC of all games and then package it up real nicely and BOOM! Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered. Would be nice if they added a little something extra at the end of Mass Effect 3 as a little bonus as well, to either tease more about the ending of Mass Effect 3 (mainly the breath scene), or at the very least tease us about a new Mass Effect.

Update: Rumors have been circulating for awhile that this is happening. I wish they would just save it for PS5/XBox X, since they are around the corner, to upgrade them even further. But I am still happy it is happening.

#2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (1 and Sith Lords) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is just plain awesome. While the first game feels more "Star Wars-y" and the 2nd one just feeling more typical RPG with some Star Wars elements thrown in. Both are perfectly fine with me. Remaster them both in full HD and then throw in some of the stuff that was cut (due to time restraints) in Sith Lords and there you go. An awesome experience to be had again. ...Again again. And again. I'd platinum the hell out of those games for sure!

#3. Fallout 3 Fallout 3 was pretty much the first PS3/360 game that bumped me into truly loving that "next-gen" feel of those consoles. The moment I stepped out of the vault, and looked over the wasteland, I knew I had found the "next-gen" game for me. I own Fallout 3 for both 360 and PS3, with all DLC on both. I have the Platinum trophy for it on PS3 and over 1,000 GS on 360, with over 400 hours combined between the two. I even wrote out a little guide to my own personal "perfect character" for myself and my friends. To say that I love Fallout 3 would be quite the understatement.

#4. The Witcher 1 & 2 ("The White Wolf Collection") "The White Wolf Collection" is just a personal idea I had for the title of the remastered packaged deal. I would love to see The Witcher 1 and 2 both remastered and released for all consoles. Maybe update the combat to Witcher 1 (it was awkward a bit at first, but I got used to it pretty fast.), give them both shiny new coat of graphics. Maybe update some of the voice over work from the first game. Regardless to whatever they would maybe decide to do with it, I know this is one remastered collection that I would pre-order so dang fast that my debit card would be smoking from my quick draw.

#5. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion While I highly enjoy Skyrim, there is just something about Oblivion that I will always love. The amazing soundtrack is probably one of them. Plus, once I finally figured out how the whole leveling system worked, I made my own custom class to help level me with stuff that I knew I'd be using. Thanks to Oblivion, I jump around all the damn time in pretty much every Bethesda game now. Ha ha ha. Anyways... To have Oblivion on PS5 with upgraded graphics would be amazing. Not to say that the game looks bad, or anything, but you can't deny that the graphics are a little dated now.

Top Favorite Games

I can't really do my top favorite games of all time, because then I got to start thinking about Atari, NES, Super NES, N64, etc., and that would take a lot of thought and digging through my memories. But since I get asked this question a lot, let me give something more fresh in my mind. How about the top 25 favorite games of the past 10 years, or so? So basically this and last generation. Sound good? This is in as good as order as I could get it. Trust me when I say this was hard to do. NOTE: I originally wrote this list out back on February 9, 2012. Finally Own a Pokemon Game for the DS

I decided to buy Pokemon Platinum as my first Pokemon game on the Nintendo DS. I waited until I got an Action Replay, so I could have my dream team with me. Yes, some people think it's cheap, but I do NOTHING else with the Action Replay except do what is needed to get me my Pokemon I want ASAP. I make sure they are the same level Pokemon as the Pokemon I would be catching at that area. I still level my Pokemon legit, I still get them all their moves legit, etc. I just get my "dream team" ASAP. But with these new Pokemon games, that is harder than it usually is, because you need a "National PokeDex". So if you're like me, and confused on what you need to do to get the Pokemon you want ASAP, here are the steps you will need to go through to do it. It took me awhile to get this all together, so I hope I can help someone out. NOTE: This will only be for Pokemon Platinum, since that is the game I have. These steps probably will be different in all the other new Pokemon games, except maybe Diamond/Pearl. First off, the only thing you will really need is a working Action Replay for the DS/DSi (doesn't matter which version, personally have the one for the DSi). Here are the steps you will need to do in the game before you even mess with the AR. This took me a total of 47 minutes, of in-game time, to do. But you can probably shorten that quite a bit, because I was reading all the story and all that. So if you are familiar with Platinum, you can probably get this done in about half that time. Steps to do in-game: ***WARNING! Slight spoilers ahead if you have not played Pokemon Platinum*** 1. Start a new game, go through all the opening. 2. Just follow the story until you get the Running Shoes and are going back to the 2nd town (I'm counting the home starting area as the first town, by the way). 3. Do all the story stuff in the 2nd town, and then watch the tutorial about catching Pokemon. 4. Run to the next town ASAP. You will have to fight 3 trainers, but they should be easy enough to take out with your starter. 5. Follow the story events of this 3rd town, talking to Looker and all that. Then talk to your friend in the school. For now, don't talk to anyone else in the school, or you might find yourself in more battles. 6. Upon leaving the school, you will be greeted by a man who will tell you about the PokeTch. Go find the 3 clowns around the city and answer "Yes" to all of their questions. Then return to the man and receive your free PokeTch. Now save, after getting your PokeTch, because now is time to start messing with your Action Replay. These are the codes you will need (NOTE!: These codes are for the NA version of the game and AR): ****WARNING!: Since you own an Action Replay, I am sure you are aware that using one can cause complications with your game. Anything as minor as fixable bugs and glitches, to things as major as corrupt save files. So use it, and these codes, at your own risk! First only activate the National Dex one. Start up your game, and then when your game is loaded, press L and R. Then look at your Pokedex. It should now be in National PokeDex mode. Notice how the Dex still needs to be filled? Cool, huh? I wanted the Nat. Dex, but I didn't want it to be filled, cause I still wanted to try to catch as many Pokemon as I could. 2. Save your game after confirming that you have the National Pokedex. 3. Turn off your game and now activate the Wild Pokemon Modifier code. If you desire to, you can activate other codes to go along with this code, if you want. Such as max IVs, easy captures, shiny Pokemon, etc. If you want those codes, then do a quick search around the web. I'm sure you'll find them somewhere. 4. Now here comes the tricky part for getting the Pokemon you want. The modifier code requires you to use your PokeTch calculator to determine which Pokemon you want, at what level, and even what nature. Here is what you need to do: 4a. Before entering the grass, you will need to input the National Pokedex Number of the Pokemon you want into the calculator, for example, Charmander, which is 4. You then hit your [L] trigger button, then the clear button on your calculator [c]. Next, put in the level you want, in this case, 10, then hit the [R] trigger button, then the clear button on your calculator [c] again. Finally, input in the nature you want, in this case, Adamant [3], then press select. Now, walk into a patch of grass, cave, or other area you can encounter Pokemon. You will then run into a level 10 Charmander with Adamant nature. [Note: When using this code with Shiny Pokemon Code, the nature part will not work. Also, this code does not work on the water, or while fishing.] Here is the corresponding nature and number list: 0) Hardy 1) Lonely 2) Brave 3) Adamant 4) Naughty 5) Bold 6) Docile 7) Relaxed 8) Impish 9) Lax 10) Timid 11) Hasty 12) Serious 13) Jolly 14) Naive 15) Modest 16) Mild 17) Quiet 18) Bashful 19) Rash 20) Calm 21) Gentle 22) Sassy 23) Careful 24) Quirky If you need to find out the number of your desired Pokemon on the National Pokedex, just find their number on a Pokemon website or wiki. 4b. After you have done the above, now you may enter the grass and fight/capture the Pokemon of your choosing. Note that the same Pokemon will always appear in the grass until you either enter what is needed, in step 4a, for a new Pokemon, or until you leave that route, enter/exit a building, or reset/turn off your game. 5. Now just do step 4 until you have your desired team of Pokemon. Now go out and have fun with your new Pokemon! Known bugs/game issues with this method: None so far. But I am afraid I will run into a bug when I reach the Elite 4. You are supposed to get the National Pokedex after you beat the Elite 4 and have seen all of the Pokemon in... Uhhh... Shinox? Whatever this new world is called. And then after you get the National Dex, the Elite 4 is supposed to get stronger. So I am afraid that I will either face the stronger Elite 4 when I finally get there for the first time, or my game will mess up soon after I beat the Elite Four, and am supposed to start hearing about the Nat Dex for the first time. I will report any bugs I run into, if I do. Q & A: Question: "Why instead of going to the town to get the Poketch, don't you just enter a code to get the Poketch early?" My Answer: I actually did try this. But the game freezes whenever you do this. At first the code will not appear to worked, so you try to make the screen reload itself (by maybe entering a building or something). When you finally do, the game will just crash and stay black screened. If you try entering the code and then saving to reload your game, hoping the Poketch will be there when you load your save, your save will just no longer be playable. When you load your save, your screen will just stay black and not load. Therefor you will have to start your game all over again. At least, this is what happened to me. So I say just go ahead and get the Poketch ASAP via the story. It doesn't take very long anyways. Q: "Why don't you just get the National PokeDex legit and stop cheating, you fuckin noobcake?" A: Good question, I suppose. I did think about doing this, but I just couldn't help myself not to get my Pokemon I want ASAP. I have a hard-on for nostalgia. You can tell that by just knowing me. I still play Atari, NES, Super NES, etc. games! So my Pokemon dream team from the original Gameboy games will always be my favorite. Look, like I said, I am not doing anything else to the game. I am not going through the game with a level 99 team. I am not giving them super powerful moves early on. I am making them low level, and leveling them legit. I still find lots of fun in battling the trainers and leveling my Pokemon legit. It's just I want the Pokemon that I like to be with me the entire game. Nothing wrong with that, is there? P.S. MmmmmMMMmmm noobcake. Q: "I tried the codes above, but they did not work. Got anymore?" A: Like I mentioned, the codes above are for the North American version of the game/Action Replay. The codes above worked perfectly for me, so I can not help you. Just search around the web for different codes and see if any of them work for you. Q: "I used your codes and it messed up my game/save! What will do you about this!?" A. I am very sorry about your problem, and I wish it hadn't of happened to you. But you used the codes at your own risk. I didn't say everything would be OK. I even post a warning in big bold red letters, just in case. I just know that I personally used the codes on my game/DS Lite and I ran into no problems (yet). Maybe you messed up the code(s) somehow? Pokemon games are great games anyways, just replay it again! Q: "What is your Pokemon "dream team" anyways?" A: My dream team consists of only 4 Pokemon. Zapdos, Mewtwo, Kyogre, Groudon. I then use the two free spots for HM horses. My dream team used to consist of: Zapdos, MewTwo, Snorlax, Gengar, Blastoise, Machamp. I still (mostly) use this team when I replay any Pokemon games before Ruby/Sapphire though. I changed my dream team while playing through FireRed/LeafGreen. I realized that Gengar wasn't really necessary (which makes me sad cause I fucking love that guy! Fun fact: I have 3 Gengar stress toys surrounding my PC in real life, and a big stuffed Gengar in the corner of my bedroom), because MewTwo basically does what he does, but only better. Give Mewtwo Shadow Ball and Gengar becomes irrelevant. Only thing Gengar is good for then is Fighting/Normal type Pokemon, since he's immune to their physical moves. But Fighting moves are not very effective against Mewtwo anyways, plus Mewtwo has a decently high defense. So... Meh. Also, even though Gengar can take out Psychic Pokemon with his Ghost/Dark moves, he is weak against the types he is strong against. So if the opponent was lucky enough, they could take out Gengar before I could do my damage with him. Add that to the fact that the only type that Mewtwo is weak against is ghost. Mewtwo = weak to only one of the classes he is set to take out. Gengar = weak to all 3. So Mewtwo wins, sadly. Poor, poor Gengar. Don't worry buddy, I still love ya! I also later realized that Kyogre is stronger than Blastoise, and also Kyogre learns Ice Beam, which helped take out the only type my old team wasn't effective against, Dragons. But I do miss Blastoise. I love his cannons on the back which makes him look so badass... and I just like turtles in general. I then also realized that I didn't really have a Ground type, which is excellent when fighting Electric types. So then I decided to add Groudon to the team, only to realize that he has a very high attack (higher than Machamp), so I just give him Break Brick and said goodbye to Machamp. I wasn't really too heartbroken over that decision, since I've always liked the look of Machoke better. I only used Machamp because we is clearly stronger than Machoke. So what was I using Snorlax for, you ask? I gave him Earthquake to take out Electric types, but other than that I basically used him as my tank. I'd call him out to take damage while I healed/revived the rest of my team, since Snorlax has such a high amount of HP. I will, however, still put Snorlax and Gengar back on the team once I no longer need my HM horses (when I am just grinding the Elite 4 over and over). Not really to do much of anything. I just love both Gengar and Snorlax, so they are to basically just to sit there and be awesome. I will still use Snorlax if I need a tank for a few turns. Q: "That's your dream team!? You cheap shit! Of course you like that team, they are all strong legendary Pokemon!" A: Yes, that is my dream team. And sure, it may be a little cheap. But remember... Since they are legendary Pokemon, they take about twice as much XP to level up, even at lower levels. But thankfully I only got 4 Pokemon to level. MUHAHAHAHA! Oh, come on! At least I was skillful enough to find a team of FOUR Pokemon to be effective against EVERY - SINGLE - TYPE in the game. Well, every type before generation VI, and not including some dual-types. Q: "You said you like your dream team cause they are from the original Gameboy games. Kyogre and Groudon are not from the original Gameboy games, you nub!" A: Not a question, but I'll respond regardless. Read two questions above (the "What is your Pokemon dream team anyways?" one) and you will see that my old dream team was all first-generation Pokemon. But then I realized that I could make some adjustments to my team to make it stronger, and to also have two less Pokemon to worry about leveling. Yes, I realize that Kyogre and Groudon are third-gen Pokemon, but they were the only Pokemon I really liked, beyond first-gen. Especially Groudon. I even got Pokemon Ruby first, over Sapphire, due to I thought Groudon looked badass. Q: "OK then... What are the roles of your dream team?" A: Zapdos - Electric/Flying Mewtwo - Psychic/Ghost Kyogre - Water/Ice Groudon - Ground/Fighting/Grass Zapdos takes out flying, grass, bug, fighting, and water Pokemon. MewTwo deals with ghost, psychic, fighting, and poison types. Kyogre handles fire, grass, ground, rock, flying and dragon types. And finally Groudon takes care of the electric, fire, poison, rock, steel, normal, ice, dark, and Water/Ground (dual-type) Pokemon.

This team can take out all the original 150 (or 151, whichever) Pokemon by themselves. It isn't until later generations that this team runs into Pokemon that they are not super-effective against. So I had to start making some adjustments to my team/moveset. Like I had to start giving Groudon Solar Beam early so he could deal with the few Water/Ground dual-type Pokemon, such as Whiscash and Seismitoad.

Q: "Nice! Can I use your dream team and set up?" A: Uhhh, sure. Not like there is much I can do to stop you, or anything. I'm sure I'm not the first/only person to think of this team, or a team similar. Knock yourself out. Plus, I wouldn't be posting about my dream team, if I didn't want anyone else using it. Q: "What Pokemon do you use to be your "HM horse"?" A: Two Mews. Since Mew can learn any move in the game, it's the perfect choice. Yes, yes, I know I'm a "cheap shit". Q: "Do you use your team to fight people online or your friends?" A: No. I like using my Pokemon to run through the game/story. I'm cheap, but I'm not that cheap. As for battling my friends with my dream team... I probably would, just to see if they could best me (it would help me find flaws in my set-up). But none of my friends have a Gameboy/DS, and only two of them actually like Pokemon games.
